The Function of City Council
The City Council is the legislative body of the City. The Council is comprised of five members elected at large who serve staggered three year terms. The Council elects a Mayor and Vice-Mayor from its membership annually. Elections are held each year on the second Tuesday of April.
Council members are the community’s decision makers. Some of the duties of the elected council include approving the budget, setting the tax rate, and passing ordinances. The council also focuses on the community’s goals, major projects, and such long-term considerations as community growth, land use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing and strategic planning.
The Council hires a professional City Manager to carry out the day to day administrative responsibilities. The Council supervises the manager’s performance.
Regular City Council Meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Second Floor of City Hall located at 111 West 1st Street, Frostproof.
