Hand building is a technique of making ceramics where you form clay into a vessel with only your hands, simple tools and a slab of clay. Many artists see hand building as a way to make unique designs. What’s great about hand building is that no previous skill is required before creating a form.
In this class, students will be instructed step by step on slab building by making a simple slab-built envelope wall pocket. Once the form is created by the students, it will be fired in a kiln. Students will then glaze the form and it will be refired to create the final ceramic form.
The instructor will be Penny Phillippi. She is long time Florida resident who retired from public administration.
She has spent the past five years working with her husband in their home pottery studio.
